Trump says Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit US on Sept 24

PresidentDonald Trumpsaid Thursday that Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the United States Sept.24 with artificial intelligence (AI) expected to be a key topic during their talks.

Trump made the announcement during remarks at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Thursday afternoon while discussing his administration’s push to build more AI data centers.

“President Xi is coming over on Sept.24,” Trump said.“We talked about it when I was over in Beijing, and we’ll be talking about it again.”

Trump called AI “probably the biggest thing anybody’s ever seen” and said the United States must stay ahead ofChinain the race to dominate the technology.

“Whoever wins that race is probably going to win, period,” Trump said.

The two leaders last met duringTrump’s trip to Beijingearlier this year, where Trump invited Xi to visit the White House.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke Wednesday and discussed laying the groundwork for what Rubio called a “very positive visit,”according to Reuters.
